Welcome to Shame and Shaming in the 21 Century!
You have stumbled upon what I hope to become the most comprehensive repository of information on the subject of shame anywhere in the world. In the menu above you will find information about shame as an evolved human trait, shame in historical perspective, shame as a mainstay in the history of pop-psychology, politics and shame, shame at work, shame at school, I have tried to cover it all.
Shame is a verb as well as a noun, and I believe that shaming, that is, the desire to make others feel shame, has become a prominent feature of American culture lately. That belief is reflected in a great deal of the content you will find on this website.
The overriding question I hope to address by publishing this website is…do people shame each other more today than in the past? If so, how and why?
Feel free to browse around. You will find a large number of links related to a great many of the subtopics listed in the menu bar above. There is also a blog, which you can add your own thoughts to, as well.
…and don’t forget to join my mailing list for occasional (very occasional) updates.
